Machine-learning workloads could execute attacker-controlled code and expose cloud credentials because of an unsafe SageMaker Python SDK default. The SDK generated a predictable storage bucket name without confirming that the caller’s account owned the bucket. An attacker who created the bucket first could influence a remote SageMaker execution environment and obtain identity credentials. Fixed versions are 2.257.3 and 3.10.0.

Why It Matters

The risk connects predictable cloud resource naming with code execution inside a managed machine-learning workflow. Forked or derivative SDK code may retain the unsafe behavior even after the main package is updated. For leaders: machine-learning pipelines can carry powerful cloud identities and require standard software maintenance. For defenders: upgrade the SDK and confirm that configured buckets belong to the expected account. The larger lesson is that resource ownership must be verified rather than inferred from a name.

What Defenders Should Do

Upgrade the SageMaker Python SDK or explicitly configure a storage bucket owned by your account.
